What is the difference between a calculater and computer?

We know that calculator works with numbers. So does the computer. So what is the difference between them?

To put it simply, calculators can do only one thing at a time. When you want to solve a problem, you have to press various buttons after each step to tell it what to do next. On the other hand, a computer can be given a series of instructions. These instructions are known as computer programmers.

A program tells the computer what to do next, when you assign a task to it. The computer will follow all the steps according to the program, and give you the answer without any further instruction from the person.

Why abacus is related with Computer

Abacus

The abacus is a calculating tool for performing arithmetic calculations. It was in use centuries before the adoption of the written modern numerical system. In fact, Babylonians may have used the abacus for addition and subtraction.

Today, the abacus is sometimes used as a teaching tool to help young children understand numbers and some mathematical calculations are still done with abacus. The design of the abacus varies but generally it consists of a frame which has rods and wires. The rods hold beads which can be moved around on the frame to represent various numbers.

History Of The Computer

Ancient Abacus
The idea for the computer began with people who wanes a easier way to calculate numbers. In between 1000 BC and 500 BC the abacus was invented in Babylonia, and this made calculating simpler. It is a calculator made of strings and beads.

First Calculator by Pascal.
Punch Card weaving
The first modern calculator was invented in 1642 by blaise Pascal. However. none of these devices could be compared to a computer because they could not be programmed. A computer must not only calculate automatically, but it should also be possible ro program it. The first step in this direction was taken in 1801 when Joseph Marie Jacquard invented a punch card that could be ides for weaving. The card made sure that the threads went through in the right order. This is important, because computer use codes in order to work.

By 1883, Charles Babbage invented the major parts of the mechanical computer. Computer means a person who can do calculations faster.
